Diemen Finish for Totaal

After being hit by a late goal last time out, Totaalvoetbal returned to winning ways with a couple of late goals of their own.

Up against an always competitive Milan side, Totaal suffered an early blow when Victor Moses lobbed a header in from a Bernard Lormor cross on seven minutes.

Shivan Preetnav couldn’t match Lormor’s accuracy with a header of his own before a Moses volley might have added to the home side’s pain if he could have directed it better.

Totaal did manage to put together their best passage of play before half-time and it resulted in a couple of chances. Pierre van Diemen found Speroni well-positioned to smoother his header on 43 minutes before Shirsh Vajpayee got his headed effort all wrong in missing the target by some distance.

Vajpayee started the second-half in equally forward thinking mood and whilst, this time, he got his header on target, it proved no bother for Speroni who made a comfortable save.

Both sides suffered disruptions with injuries to Azofra and van Nisterooy respectively and the game went through a quiet spell as a result. However, this suited Milan down to the ground as they looked to see out the game with a minimum of fuss.

Milan were to be stung, though, as Totaal turned up the pressure in the final five minutes. With Alexis Barrere playing as a third striker the home side threw caution to the wind and reaped the benefits. The marauding defender would fling himself at a Miquel Oriol cross and power a header past Speroni.

With Milan still reeling from the equaliser, Totaal struck again. Vajpayee would produce some excellent wing play and deliver an ideal cross for van Diemen to head past Speroni and turn the game on its head.

The visitors nearly produced one final twist as Moses produced a diving header of his own only for it to thump off the post and bounce clear.

“Yeah, I think Markie can feel a little aggrieved with that one. They have put in a very good away performance but I’ll take the points,” said Meeblind.

“With a tough game against Dan’s Amateurs coming up we need all the points on offer.”
