The Glory Hornets were let down at both ends as they went down 3-0 to The Champs.
Manager Greg Perkins opted for a defensive 4-5-1 formation in anticipation of The Champs' adventurous 3-pronged offensive. However the usually unshakable Elliot Malloy looked very out-of-sorts in his lone role, and this was exacerbated by the fact that keeper Ashton Rosbotham had a very poor day, conceding 75% of shots aimed at him.
After the match Perkins was noticeably dejected, stating "On paper we did enough to earn a point, matching them on shots and possession. Things just didn't go our way in either penalty area, and that's where you need the most luck."
In response to soundbites from opposite number Wylie that the win was "comfortable", Perkins added "The score-line was a little flattering, as we matched them in many regards and had a goal disallowed. But they went route-one and it worked well for them. I'm sure they'll do well this season, but when they come down our way, we'll try and make our next meeting less 'comfortable'."
With just one point from six, The Hornets next face a tough trip to in-form Wortley AFC, fresh off an impressive away win against Grey Area. The Hornets need more sting if they are to prove anything other than Division 3 make-weights.
