The board of Bristol City have backed the manager despite the team being relegated to division 2. In a statement to the press, the board confirmed that they had encouraged the manager to develop the teams youth players and accepted the risk that they may get relegated. In a leaked report produced by the board, they consider a season in division 2 as a good team building opportunity and fully expect the team to be promoted straight back to division 1 next season. Manager Stevenson was unavailable for comment other than the following written statement:-
'It will be a good opportunity for us to further develop the youth team next season without having to field the strongest possible team week in week out. The players will flourish and we will come back stronger next season'.
