Oranje Hit the Front

Totaalvoetbal found their scoring touch this past week to hit six goals and gain six vital points in their quest for a second RM Invitational title.

A tricky looking match at OAP Pop Punk saw the home side in a very aggressive mood going forward. However, it would be Pierre van Diemen who made the difference in the match-up. A header just before half-time and a crisp strike after the break saw Totaal go 2-0 ahead and look in control. To their credit Pop Punk quickly pulled a goal back courtesy of a Tony Adams strike from distance and went close to levelling on several occasions. Nevertheless, it would be the Dutch side who would emerge triumphant as van Diemen netted his hat-trick goal minutes from time to clinch an important win.

Totaal would be back at Metelo Park on Friday with fellow title contenders Kirkbride Strollers in opposition. Both sides knew a win would be crucial to their challenge and attacked the game from the off. Stephen Robinson made the first breakthrough for the visitors with a fine header but this was cancelled out before the break as Bosse Bong broke from midfield to finish well following good work from van Diemen. It would be van Diemen himself who would then put Totaal ahead after the break before the match had an exciting finish. Robinson netted again for Kirkbride with a brilliant free-kick to level matters but a Bong strike from some way out would clinch the win for the Oranje.

The result left Totaalvoetbal a point clear going into the final week but with a tough match at Splott to come on Tuesday the title is still as far away as ever.
