Real Jammy Dodgers

Liverpool promotion hopes took a major dent this evening with a 1-0 home defeat to Real Madrid.Buttons the reds boss had to be picked up after the final whistle as he lay flat on the touch line in disbelief that his side had not won the game.

A win today would have took Liverpool a step closer to a place in division 1 next season. The home team had taken 12 points out of 12 in the last four games and had only conceded 2 goals.

Liverpool started with a 4-4-2 and welcome back Kenny Daglish into the starting line up. Real Madrid boss FredRizzo had predicted that his team may be a dark horse for promotion.

The game was not a classic and all the action took place in the last 10 minutes of the game, Liverpool controled the game with 58% of the possesion but found it hard to break down the Real Madrid defence. The home team where award a freekick in 82nd minute, Martin Skrtel placed the ball about 30 yards from the Real Madrid goal. The big man took a long run up like england fast bowler Freddie Flintoff, the real madrid wall stood with anticipation and fear across their face, Skrtel struck the ball only to see it rebound of the frame of the goal. The madrid keeper didn't even have time to move.

Liverpool had the ball in the Real Madrid net in the 90th minute, Dirk Kuyt played a neat one two with Ian Rush and put the ball into the net as the liverpool players ran to the fans to celebrate, the far side linesman had his flag raise for offside, The tv replays showed that Kuyt was onside by a country mile and the linesman had made a mistake and should have gone to spec savers to get his eyes tested. The liverpool bench where up in arms after seeing the reply of the offside on the big screen in the stadium. Liverpool assistant manager was sent to the stand for protesting vigorously and calling the linesman " A blind wan*er".

Because of the commotion of the disallowed goal the referee added over 4 minutes of injury time.Real madrid had not had a shot on goal up until the 94th minute when they scored a goal against the run of play. The Anfield crowd where absolutley stunned and pin could have dropped in the stadium.

At full time the referee and his assistants had to get a police escort off the pitch as the Liverpool players and backroom staff where ready to tear strips off the officals.

At the post match conference Liverpool manager said"The officals will not tell me why they disollowed Dirk Kuyt goal as you can see from the tv replys the goals should have stood, he was clearly onside. I think we deserved at least a point from the game. Allow real madrid didn't have much of a goal threat they are a hard team to break down away from home when they play 2 banks of 4 across the middle of the park."

Buttons was then asked about the promotion race.

" Kirkbride are 5 points clear and should be division 2 champions soon. Manchester Utd had a great 3-2 win over The Vikings who are the other promotion contenders. Liverpool, Manchester Utd and Liverpool are all sitting on 27 points with 4 games to go. The Vikings are starting to stuggle for form, We still have Manchester Utd to play hear at Anfield and that will decide the league places i think"
