A sublime chip from Micky Cox saw Yorkshires Amateurs return to the top flight at the first time of asking after a 1-0 victory over White Hawk FC.
The Amateurs also go up as divisional champions after a tense final day of the season in which anything was still possible.
The game was a predictably tight affair as both teams knew that victory would guarantee them promotion. With the Amateurs only chance of the game young Micky Cox worked his way into Amateurs folklore with a stunning strike on 84 minutes.
The champagne has been flowing at the Thorp Arches and manager Danlufc13 had this to say. “There is no doubt that our defensive record has been the reason we have won the title today, to only concede 13 goals in 22 games is testament to our backline. We still need to score a few more though but next season is to be one of consolidation, the season after we will be a much better side. I’m proud of the boys though, especially my Dad’s army who although long in the tooth have proved that a blend of experience and youth is vital to prosper in this league.
Our congratulations also go out to Real Madrid FC and White Hawk FC who join us in the top division next season. A special mention also has to go out to AC Milan who had a fantastic finish to the season and I expect them to be frontrunners for the Division 1 title next term”.
