Newry City 1 - 1 The Vikings

Viking Land News

Season slowly winding down.

The Vikings season is slowly winding down with nothing left to play for except pride and experience. The team sent out was made up of anyone still needing match experience and this will continue for the next game.

Newry had the games first chance a Husic freekick hitting the post on 10 minutes. Ahlm then hit the crossbar with a header for the Vikings on 14 as both teams tested the frame of the goal. Young midfielder Lewis Branston then found the net after a corner from Gourmas, the ball was not cleared and fell to Branston who stabbed home. Newry then continued hitting the woodwork when Petsiara hit the bar on 22. The goals were getting a good test of rigidity as Almadis sent over a 41st minute freekick that seemed destined for the net but hammered back off the bar. 0-1 half-time, Newry were dominating possession but The Vikings had created more chances.

The second half started brightly and Branston headed just over on 48. Husic then sent a 51st minute freekick wide for Newry. Almandis hit the target with a good shot on 63 but wellens saved well. Cowdrey then got Newry what was probably a deserved equaliser as he shot home from range after receiving the ball from Revell. both teams were probably happy enough with the point and must have wished the game could have ended on 80 minutes as both teams suffered injuries to good players in the last 10 minutes. First Wellens fell awkwardly getting a cross for Newry and had to be replaced before Gourmas pulled up with a muscle srain when running for the ball. Both teams will hope their player is fit in plenty of time for the new season.

1-1 and probably a fair result.
