Wandsworth rounded off a superb first season in the RM Invitational with a 5-0 win at Here For The Beer FC. The difference in experience and class was evident from the start as Wandsworth opened the scoring in the very first minute with a fine Darcy Hording shot in the penalty area. Although the home side did enjoy a couple of chances in the first-half the game was as good as over after 19 minutes as Wandsworth added two more goals. In the 18th minute Rick Tuttle produced a spectacular effort from long range before Robin Barratt added a lovely breakaway goal just a minute later to put them 3-0 ahead. Darcy Hording did suffer an injury to put a dampener on the first-half but the away fans were delighted with their team at the interval. The second-half saw them continue to dominate and, following a bad penalty miss from Daniel Mendoza for the home side, they would add two further goals. Danny Shorey shot home number four in the area on 72 minutes and despite an injury to Alf Ackroyd they would add a fifth courtesy of a Barratt header on 86 minutes to complete the rout. LotharIstvan now leads his team into Division Two and only he will know whether he plans on adding reinforcements to an already impressive squad. Howemiester can now put this horror season behind him and concentrate on making his side competitive for the new season after a silly season of hard work.
These Charming Men finished in second after an end-of-season affair at home to Glasgow City. A dull and listless first-half saw just a solitary Tord Jakobson effort on goal as both sides knocked the ball around without any real purpose. With the crowd enjoying a promotion party most of the action was in the stands as the second-half continued in the same vein. Jakobson forced a save from Longton before Eliseu Henriques also had an effort go close as the home side created what chances there were. Glasgow City saw their season end with an injury to Mick Powerscourt but Moonboy can look forward to the new season with renewed confidence with his side in good form. RDCM has the silly season to prepare his side for life in Division Two after navigating his side to second in the table. Much will be expected of the manager who also picked up three manager of the round awards in a successful debut RM season.
Alsancak finished in third despite being edged out by The Champs at Old Trafford. The Champs themselves putting the finishing touches on an excellent season which saw them finish fifth. The game itself saw both sides enjoy chances in an even encounter. The first-half seeing Zachary Doughty and Anibal Felix go close for the hosts before Seth Alker fired them in front from distance on 33 minutes. Alsancak had chances too through Deano Elmes but he couldn’t quite put the finishing touch to some decent approach play. The second-half saw two chances at either end. Alker and Doughty going close for the hosts while Sebastian Norcott and Max Jekyll missed chances to draw the visitors level at the other end. The lacklustre finishing meant that Alker’s first-half goal was enough to win the game for The Champs. Wylie909 will now look to lead his side to glory in the cup although Champs News reported that they will need ‘a big performance’ to oust Wandsworth in the first round. Wienersnitzel can call his side a Division Two team now and will lead them into battle against AFC Stanley in the cup on Friday after a superb first season.
Finishing in fourth are Worley afc who enjoyed an entertaining 2-2 draw at Wiltshire Warriors. The visitors got off to the perfect start with a first minute breakaway goal by Jake Shiver. This seemed to spark the home side, though, and they went on to create six chances in an exciting first-half performance. An injury to Dante de Matteo didn’t affect their passing rhythm but their finishing left a lot to be desired. They did, however, manage to score an equaliser in the 28th minute as Clifford Cornish bucked the trend to shoot home in the penalty area. The visitors were having no such trouble at the other end as they notched their second goal from their second chance. It came on 45 minutes from a penalty as Brandon Hiller confidently beat Moore in goal to give them a half-time lead. The Warriors have become a resilient side under Big K and they didn’t lie down during the second-half. They were quickly level on 53 minutes as Craig Elliott scored the goal of the game from distance. Both sides would enjoy further chances but wasteful finishing meant that the score would remain 2-2. A point represents a good finish to the season for Big K who will go into the new campaign in his customary confident mood. While Wiltshire look to take out AC Milan in their cup match, wortley travel to AJ Rovers looking for more fortune after finishing fourth in the league and just missing out on promotion to Division Two.
Grey Area defeated an ill-disciplined Dream Team 2-0 to give Carfin a boost going into his first full season as an RM Invitational manager. Area managed to take an eighth minute lead through Garth Rossall as he powered a free-kick into the net but then proceeded to be the recipients of some tasty Dream Team play for the remainder of the half. Five players saw yellow as this turned into anything but an end-of-season knockabout. Despite out-muscling their opponents the visitors couldn’t take any of their opportunities and Area were to assert themselves with some fine football during the second-half. However, they would have problems in finishing their chances and had to wait until the 87th minute to seal the win. This would come after Giovanni Cambiel had been sent-off for the visitors. Allan Bound was the scorer as he capitalised on some excellent play by Sheldon Skiverton to beat Williamson in goal. An injury to Daniel Brewster couldn’t take the gloss of the end of season party at Doon The Park as Grey Area look forward to brighter times ahead. Firstly, though, they will want to overcome DaX’s new-boys in the cup on Friday. Dream Team manager MrJames was happy with ‘a good season for the partial time’ he has been in the league and will look forward to making more of an impact during the next campaign and in the cup against St Omer.
Northwich Victoria and Glory Hornets finished the season with a 1-1 draw at Victoria stadium. The last ever game at this stadium proved to be a dull one as neither side could create much going forward to end a season of frustration for both. Only two chances were created in the game and both came courtesy of referee Michaell Steen pointing to the spot. Victoria opened the scoring on 20 minutes as Louis Neau made no mistake with his penalty. The Hornets were given the chance to level just 18 minutes later with Toma Popadic scoring easily. Louis Neau suffered an injury in the second-half and he and his teammates will now look for employment elsewhere as Victoria fold after just one season. Mucca’s Glory Hornets will hope to be successful in the change report before embarking on their second season in the league; hoping to improve upon this season’s eighth-place.
